| Arbutus Corridor Bike Route: Next Meeting March 2 | The VACC is pushing for the development of a bicycle route along the Arbutus Corridor. The first task is to get the CPR to begin negotiating with Vancouver City Council to make the former rail line available for soft development as a green space. We will be contacting politicians at all levels of government, community organizations affected by the proposal and representatives from the VSB to solicit support. Please join the group's Facebook page to show we have enormous support for this initiative. The next meeting of the Arbutus Corridor Committee is Tuesday, March 2, 7pm at the VACC office (3 W. 3rd Ave.). | | |

| Burrard Bridge Protected Lanes Trial | The Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition (VACC) strongly supports the City of Vancouver's Burrard Bridge Protected Bike Lanes Trial, which began Monday, July 13 and will continue at least to spring 2010. "This City Council is showing bold leadership by quickly addressing the serious safety issues facing people who bike, walk, and drive over the Burrard Bridge," says Arno Schortinghuis, VACC President. With predicted "traffic gridlock" nowhere in sight and a number of drivers deciding to park the car and walk or bike downtown instead, the trial has had a very successful start. More info... | | |
| Tips for Sharing the Road | Did you know that in Metro Vancouver, all road users -- drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians -- pay for the roads through property taxes? That means we all have the right to use our streets, and we all have a responsibility to share the roads, too. Here are some excellent tips on how to share the road for both cyclists and drivers, courtesy of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance. | | |
| Canada Line Bike/Pedestrian Bridge | Cyclists and pedestrians can now enjoy a safe crossing between Vancouver and Richmond! The 1-km-long Canada Line Pedestrian Bicycle Bridge is the longest traffic-separated bridge ever built to serve pedestrians and cyclists in Metro Vancouver. From Vancouver, cyclists may access the bridge via the south end of Ash Street at Kent Avenue. From Richmond, access is via Van Horne Way at River Road. More info... | | |
